Imperfect action is better
than perfect inaction.
~ Harry S. Truman
"I don't have time"
"Maybe I will start next week"
"I am too tired, I will just fall asleep"
This is what I have been telling myself for months and months as I have been wanting to start a daily meditation practice but have stood in this same place of PERFECT INACTION
Just because I read that someone else can meditate for 30 or 60 mins, why does that mean I need to do the exact same as them?
Why isn't the 5 or 10 mins 'pocket of time' that I have good enough?
I don't know why we can be so critical of ourselves. Constantly comparing ourselves to others and letting that negative self talk take the spotlight and microphone which leads to no action
Well I asked HER to move on over, I took back the control and I decided to start meditating, not in someone else's way BUT in my way, a way that can easily become a daily ritual for me and most days that looks like 5 or 10 minutes and I am over the moon with that
And you know what... it has been over 3 weeks since I first started and I have managed to make meditating a daily practice (sometimes twice a day!).
I am always open to finding new daily habits that I can stack onto my existing ones to strengthen and improve my well being hence the reason I started looking into the benefits of taking a cold shower:
increased alertness
improves your circulation
stimulates weight loss
boosts your mood
strengthens your immune system [which is funny and contradicting as it actually feels like your shivering your way to flu like symptoms ]
There are a couple of methods - you can have a completely cold shower or you can do it in a short burst... I have been trialing a short burst at the end of my shower... it is FREEZING
I’m going to keep going with cold water showers as for me, I find that when I challenge myself both physically and mentally, it is so rewarding and pays off for the rest of my day / night
Training myself to find comfort in the discomfort
Be kind to yourself. Give yourself credit for wanting to bring forth change into your life but most importantly... act on it. Don't get stuck in a state of comparison and thinking that you aren't doing a good job... because I am here to tell you that you are
And in the words of Tina Turner
“You’re simply the best,
You’re better than all the rest,
You're better than anyone,
Anyone, I’ve ever met”
